Percentages of Ethnic Groups
Clearly the Serbs dominate the ethnic makeup of Southern Europe. It is closely followed by the Albanians and the Italians. There are plenty of minorities such as Galacians and Sammarinese that were large enough in size to mention, but are still relatively small in percentage compared to other ethnic groups.
Map depicting active separists movements in Southern Europe
In the smaller countries to the east of Italy, their ethnic groups are more blended, each fostering a percentage of their neighboring countries natives. In Portugal, Spain, and Italy, which are the sub-regions largest countries, the ethnic makeup is very straightforward. Diversity is very minimal, seeing as how these countries are dominated by native-borns. Some of the more prominent separatist movements are the Catalan Independance Movement in Northern Spain, Unification of the Greek dominated land in Albania with Greece, the Sardinian Nationalist Separatists in Italy, and the proposals for Hungarian territorial autonomy in the northern part of Vojvodina, Serbia led by the Hungarians in Serbia. There is also notable ethnic tension between Serbs and Croats.
